Former Georgia star Anthony Edwards inked a five-year rookie maximum deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. That deal could pay out as much as $260 million over the life of the contract, depending on whether Edwards hits certain triggers, like All-NBA status. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Edwards reached his first All-Star game this past season. He set career highs this year in points (24.6), rebounds (5.8), assists (4.4) and steals (1.6) per game as the Timberwolves reached the playoffs before falling in the first round to the eventual national champion Denver Nuggets.

Edwards ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the 2019 class after starring at Atlanta Holy Spirit Preparatory School. He decided to stay in state, picking Georgia over Kentucky.

The Bulldogs struggled to find success, though they improved to 16-16 and 5-13 in SEC play after 11-21 and 2-16 the previous year. And Georgia added an 18-point SEC Tournament win over Ole Miss before the rest of the postseason was canceled for COVID-19.
