Former Charleston head coach Pat Kelsey is tasked with fixing Louisville basketball, as the Cardinals officially named Kelsey their head coach on Thursday. At the introductory press conference, Kelsey made sure his tenure got off to a bit of a bizarre start.
Kelsey recounted a dream he had the night before, that included a meeting with St. Peter in heaven and walking past houses that belonged to fellow head coaches Bill Self, Dusty May, Scott Drew and John Calipari. The dream then ended with him walking towards the house that was decorated for Louisville’s new coach, but it actually belonged to God.
Kelsey has had an extremely successful career as a head coach, first leading Winthrop to five 20-win seasons and two NCAA tournament appearances. After nine seasons with the Eagles, Kelsey coached at Charleston for three years and went 58–12 with two NCAA tournament appearances since 2022.
