Spurs picked up a 2-1 win over the Seagulls thanks to second-half goals from Pape Matar Sarr and Brennan Johnson. But the first half was frustrating, to say the least, with Ange Postecoglou’s men struggling to stamp their authority on the game.
After falling behind in the 17th minute, Spurs began to press the issue towards the end of the first half.
Yet, Tottenham struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, barring one chance for Richarlison after he was set through on goal by James Maddison.
The Brazil star was denied by Jason Steele before another half-opportunity came his way later in the half. But his decision to take the shot on, rather than pass to Cristian Romero, left Tottenham’s vice-captain unimpressed.
Romero furious with Richarlison
In the 40th minute, Romero pressed high up the pitch and won the ball back in a dangerous area for Spurs.
Maddison then took over and found Richarlison, who did brilliantly to turn Lewis Dunk and create some space for himself. But his effort was blocked by Jan Paul van Hecke and Romero felt the Brazil star took the wrong decision.
