It has been announced that Liverpool and 20-year-old Kevin Mantilla of Colombia are in talks.

According to a report from AS in late December, Liverpool was reportedly monitoring the defender. Andrés Fassi, the president of CA Talleres, has now formally acknowledged Liverpool’s interest in the player.

The 61-year-old, who was cited by La Voz, stated: “It’s true, they have been following him for the past four months.” They also requested details from us regarding his tangible documentation.

Following  MaJoeltip’s ACL tear, Mantilla is the most recent defender to be added to Liverpool’s lengthy transfer wish list. Jurgen Klopp is looking to add a new center-back to the lineup.

Mantilla is currently on the Reds’ transfer radar. The Cameroonian has to be replaced, especially because this deal is about to expire in less than six months.

The 20-year-old center back has an incredible height of 1.91 meters (six foot three). Mantilla has the physical attributes necessary to handle the rigors of the Premier League.

His contract with CA Talleres, under which the Alinea agency represents him, only expires on December 31, 2027. They primarily represent athletes from Colombia, such as David Ospina and Anderson Arroyo.

What piques Liverpool’s interest?
Liverpool needs a replacement for Matip because of his injury and contract problems, as was previously established.

He is a perfect stylistic fit for Klopp’s playing philosophy.

Like Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk, Mantilla is a skilled one-on-one tackler who can easily thwart counterattacks on his own.

His aerial presence is a significant strength, but his tackling and interceptions are particularly noteworthy. Mantilla also makes excellent use of his enormous body, deflecting shots and crosses as if his life depended on it.

He does, meanwhile, have a propensity to overcommit to dangerous challenges that he won’t be able to pull off in the Premier League.

Although making the transition to the English premier league is not easy, Liverpool never forces new players into the starting lineup until they are ready.

Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch are prime examples of this. While Gravenberch is still getting used to life in the Premier League, the latter has at last settled down at Anfield.

When will Mantilla be signed by Liverpool?
It’s only conjecture, but it’s possible to work out an agreement with CA Talleres for the summer.

Liverpool may also be able to negotiate a low price for him because of his relative unknown status and obscure league in which he plays.

Purchasing players without prior European experience carries some risk, but Klopp is a coach who can bring out the best in Mantilla.
