Joel Matip’s ACL tear has accelerated the Merseysiders’ schedule for signing a center back, even though they were not scheduled to do so until the summer.

Matip’s contract is about to expire and he will be sidelined till the end of the season due to an ACL injury. This means that he may never play for the Reds again.

When healthy, he’s been a fantastic player for the team, but it appears that his injury problems have cruelly ended his time at Liverpool before it started.

In order to replace him, the team is now in the process of signing a young, gifted center defender.

Liverpool’s list of objectives includes Ousmane Diomande, who is reportedly valued at £70 million.

As kloppa looks to replace Matip, the Daily Mail says that Liverpool is interested in three center backs from Portugal’s Primeira Liga and one from the Bundesliga.

On their shortlist are:

Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio
Sporting Lisbon, as well as Ousmane Diomande
(VfL Wolfsburg) Maxence Lacroix (Benfica) Antonio Silva
Over the past few months, Inacio has been frequently associated with Liverpool; Silva and Lacroix have also been suggested as potential targets; however, nothing appears to be moving forward on that front.

Although Diomande (20) has an expensive release clause of £70 million, he is an interesting prospect who will cause Liverpool a great deal of headaches should they choose to pursue concrete.
