ALEX BREGMAN: I’m Motivated by Relationships, Not Money
When it comes to my commitment to the Houston Astros, it’s never been about money or financial incentives. Instead, it’s the relationships that have truly shaped my love for this organization, the city of Houston, and my passion for the game of baseball. From the very beginning of my career with the Astros, I’ve felt a deep connection to not only the fans but also my teammates, coaches, and the entire Astros organization. It’s these relationships that drive me and motivate me to give my all every single day, both on and off the field.
Baseball is often viewed as a business, and while that’s true in many respects, it’s also so much more than that. It’s a sport that brings people together, a game that thrives on trust, camaraderie, and teamwork. The Astros, as a team, have always felt like a second family to me. From the front office to the coaches, and most importantly, my teammates, I have formed bonds with incredible individuals who share the same love for the game. These relationships go beyond baseball—they transcend into a support system that helps me grow not just as a player, but as a person.
One of the most impactful aspects of my journey with the Astros has been the relationships I’ve built with the veterans on the team. Players like José Altuve, Carlos Correa, and Justin Verlander have taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, perseverance, and work ethic. They’ve shown me what it means to be part of a winning culture, and they’ve helped shape the player I am today. The mentorship I’ve received from these men is something I carry with me every day, and it’s a huge reason why I continue to play the game with passion and dedication.
I’ve always loved the city of Houston, too. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed with open arms. The fans here are incredible, and they’ve supported me through every high and low. The bond I share with the Houston community is something that goes beyond sports. It’s about the people—the families, the kids, the parents, the students—all of whom are behind the Astros, cheering for us every step of the way. It’s an honor to represent a city that has such a rich sports culture, and I feel privileged to call Houston my home.
Another element that motivates me is the shared vision within the Astros organization. From the top down, everyone is aligned with the goal of winning championships, and it’s this collective determination that fuels my own desire for success. I’ve always believed that when you surround yourself with people who share the same ambition and work ethic, great things can happen. The Astros have cultivated an environment where every player is encouraged to push their limits and improve, and that’s something that keeps me excited about coming to the ballpark every day.
While financial rewards are certainly a part of any professional athlete’s career, they are not the driving force behind my love for the Astros. For me, the joy of playing for this organization comes from the relationships I’ve forged with teammates, coaches, and the fans. It’s about competing alongside people I respect and admire, and playing the game for the right reasons—because I love it. It’s these relationships that give me the motivation to continue striving for greatness and to help bring more championships to Houston.
In the end, the relationships I’ve built with the Astros are what make this experience so special. The bonds we share, the moments we celebrate together, and the challenges we overcome as a team are the true rewards of my career. Money and contracts come and go, but these relationships are the foundation of my passion for the game. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this team, and I look forward to continuing to build on these connections for years to come.
I have always loved the Astros with all my heart, and it’s the relationships I’ve built here that make it a place I want to stay and grow with for as long as possible.
